- Ingredient Lists :

For the sauce :

  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • ¼ cup rice vinegar , or apple cider vinegar
  • ½ cup tomato ketchup
  • ¼ cup Orco Organic Jaggery Powder
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 large cloves garlic
  • 1 tablespoon Orco Organic Ginger Powder , grated finely
  • ¼ teaspoon Orco Organic Cinnamon Powder
  • ¼ teaspoon Orco Organic Fennel Seeds
  • ½ teaspoon Orco Organic Pink Salt
  • ½ teaspoon Orco Organic Black Pepper Powder
  • ¼ teaspoon Orco Organic Chili Flakes

 For the Tofu :

  • 1 block or 450g extra firm tofu
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • ¼ teaspoon Orco Organic Cinnamon Powder
  • ¼ teaspoon Orco Organic Fennel Seeds
  • ¼ teaspoon Orco Organic Pink Salt

- Instructions :

 Press the Tofu :

  1. Press the tofu for at least 30 minutes. Either use a tofu press or wrap the block of tofu in a clean dish towel and stack some heavy thing (like cookbooks and canned foods)on top of it.

 For the Sauce :

  1. Add the cornstarch to a small pan and slowly add the vinegar, stirring as you go so that you work out any lumps in the mixture.
  2. Now add all of the other sauce ingredients and stir well.
  3. Place over low to medium heat and keep stirring until the mixture becomes thick and silky. Don't stop stirring it throughtout as it will get lumpy. It will take about 10 minutes.
  4. Once the mixture is thick, turn down the flame to its lowest setting possible and keep warm while you make the tofu. You may also turn teh flame off completely and reheat later after the rest of the preparation.

For the Tofu :

  1. Cut the pressed and prepared tofu into ½ inch cubes.
  2. In a large bowl, mix all the Orco organic spices and organic pink salt with the cornstarch.
  3. Add the tofu cubes to this flour mixture and toss nicely to coat every cube evenly. We find using our hands the best option for doing this as you are less likely to break the tofu pieces.
  4. Heat a non-stick frying pan over medium to high heat.
  5. Once the pan is very hot, add the tofu to it and cook until the tofu turn golden brown and are crispy on all sides, tossing frequently. It will take around 5 to 10 minutes for the tofu to cook evenly.
  6. Add the prepared sauce to the pan to coat the tofu, allowing it to cook for a couple of minutes until sticky, then serve immediately with the remaining sauce and voila your nutritious Spiced Tofu Stir Fry is ready.

This amazingly fresh, tasty and super nutritious Spiced Tofu Stir Fry is entirely vegan and gluten free. An easy and satisfying recipe for a tofu stir fry which is packed with lots of flavors and nutrients. It's best eaten fresh, but leftovers can be refrigerated in a sealed container for up to 3 days and warmed before serving.
