Ragi Modak Recipe:

Modaks are everyone's favorite and you can enjoy them in different flavors and fillings. But homemade modaks are always better than the store bought ones because they're made from fresh ingredients. Here's how you can make them absolutely delicious and healthy using Ragi flour.

Ragi flour is a wonderful ingredient for making delicious and healthy homemade modaks. Ragi is a good source of protein and has many health benefits like maintaining a healthy weight and reducing cholesterol.

Here is how you make it:

Ragi Modak Recipe

Ingredients

Ragi flour- 200gm

Rice flour - 100gm

Ghee - 50gm

Coconut grated - 3 Cups

Jaggery - 3 Cups

Saffron - 3 - 4 pcs

Green cardamom powder - 5gm

Preparation of Ragi modak involves two steps:

Step 1: Preparing modak filling

  • Grate a fresh coconut and some jaggery. Add it to a pan.
  • Heat a pan on a low flame for 5 minutes. Stir the grated coconut and jaggery and ensure it is not burnt.
  • Now add some green cardamom powder and saffron in the ingredients and mix well.
  • Now keep it aside to cool.

Step 2: Making modak

  • Mix ragi flour and rice rice in a bowl.
  • Take a Kadhai and add 1 cup of water. Bring the water to boil.
  • Add the flour mixture and ghee to the boiled water.
  • Heat it  on low flame for 3-4 minutes.
  • Pour the mixture in a steel bowl (grease the bowl with ghee) and knead it with your hand till it becomes dough.
  • Now take a little dough, roll it into a ball and flatten it well.
  • Put a spoonful of the filling onto the dough and seal it.
  • Similarly make all the remaining modak from the remaining dough and steam it for 10- 15 minutes.

Modak are ready to be served. Enjoy them!
